Spanish Flats
"Spanish Flats", Peveril
The "Spanish Flats" are quite a pleasant group of flats in it's own right if you like that sort of thing. However as part of Swanage they do look very out of place and it was a major surprise to the population of Swanage that building permission was ever granted.
The location is on the sea wall and very vulnerable to severe weather conditions, something that the developers did not seem to be bothered about.
Finished in 1989 they had an asking price in the order of 105,000, now, in 2003, the asking price is in the order of 450,000.
Their correct address is The Haven, Peveril Point Road. There are 32 flats.    These flats were constructed at the eastern end of the site of the demolished Grosvenor Hotel which did look out of place itself, especially since it was eventually an original hotel plus 2 houses all stiched together.
The western end/remainder of the site remained derelict for many years but eventually became the Wessex Water Sewerage Treatment Plant (pictured above) which is descreetly constructed in Purbeck Stone and completed in 2000.
The workings of the Treatment Plant are very modern and the premises are sometimes open for guided tours which can prove very educational.

Georgian Gems , The Antique Jewellers, 28 High Street, is perhaps the smallest shop in Swanage, certainly the smallest jewellers. It may be the smallest in Dorset, or even all of the United Kingdom. Three customers can be a squeeze but it is most certainly worth the visit just to take in the variety and quality of jewellery in the window. There is always a good selection of old and modern jewellery, silver and interesting unusual items.

Services offered are:
VICTORIAN AND ANTIQUE REPAIRS by local specialist Gold and Silversmiths, New Pieces Commissioned, Lapidary Work, Pearl bead re-threading, Carriage Clocks, Watches, silver items repaired/re-plated, Seal Carving and Engraving, cleaning by arrangement or return of post.
The above services at modest cost.
VALUATIONS for insurance, Probate and Exchange. A Free Valuation with any purchase over 100.
JEWELLERY SEARCH SPECIALIST - Antique items - your specific requests gladly sought.

We wish to purchase or will sell on a commission basis.
